Experienced Circumcision Doctor – Dr. Tim McAuliff
Dr. Tim McAuliff is a physician in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex with an extensive medical background. He has performed more than 5,000 safe, successful outpatient and clinic procedures and has a broad spectrum of experience in patient care within the hospital, clinic, and emergency department settings. He performs circumcisions and vasectomy at Gentle Procedures Dallas at our Richardson clinic as his primary medical practice.
Dr. McAuliff performs circumcision for infants (up to 6 months), boys (aged 12 and up), adolescents and adults. Our clinic is focused on providing surgical procedures for men including circumcision and No Scalpel, No Needle vasectomy. After researching methods and techniques, Dr. McAuliff chose to do extensive training with Dr. Neil Pollock, one of North America’s foremost authorities.
Dr. Pollock’s research into developing a quick and virtually pain free approach to circumcision has been widely recognized in North America. Dr. McAuliff is the first physician to introduce these methods to Texas, and his clinic has grown enormously as a result.

The Circumcision Experience at our Texas Location
For babies or younger boys, the presence of parent can be quite comforting. You are welcome and encouraged to be in the private room during the procedure. Parents are never asked to wait in another room while the circumcision is being done. Soft music is played creating a calm, relaxing environment.
We offer circumcision from newborns up to 6 months. Boys 12 and over and teens are also eligible for the procedure.
At Gentle Procedures, it is not uncommon for infants to sleep right through their circumcision. We really are gentle. We encourage you to bring books or a toy for an older boy, just to keep them calm and distracted. While your teen may not want you in the room, we suggest headphones and music to help relieve any anxiety he might have.
Remember the procedure is over quite quickly – most of our patients are pleasantly surprised at how little discomfort they experience,
The procedure room is kept warm and is equipped with a local thermostat so that each family can set the comfort level they prefer.
Infant Circumcision Guide
Each year, there are over a million circumcisions performed in North America. Newborn circumcision, when performed properly, is quick and safe. The medical benefits accrue from infancy through old age.
In 2012, The American Academy of Pediatrics published in a Policy Statement that; “current evidence indicates that the health benefits of newborn male circumcision outweigh the risks”. For more information on the risks and benefits of baby circumcision, please click here.
It is Dr. McAuliff’s position (as well as the position of a national pediatric society) that; “When parents are making a decision about circumcision they should be advised of the present state of medical knowledge about its benefits and harms. Their decision may ultimately be based on personal, religious or cultural factors”.
We would also add that informed decision making is a critical step in any surgical procedure. The same applies for adult circumcision performed at our Texas clinic – and in general for any medical procedure.

There are extremely low complication rates.
Our staff will be available to assist with any concerns or questions. We will discuss all your support options and provide contact information before you leave the clinic.
Why do Texas parents choose to circumcise their sons?
A circumcision is often undertaken for cultural and religious reasons, and there can be health benefits as well:
- It reduces the risk of urinary tract infection.
- It reduces the risk of penile infection also called balanoposthitis.
- It eliminates the need to do it later in life when up to 6% of boys will require a circumcision because of various problems.
- When adult or teen circumcision is done later in life, it is a more costly, difficult, and riskier procedure that can require a general anesthetic, and it is also more painful.
- Circumcision reduces the risk of getting some sexually transmitted diseases including Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) and AIDS (HIV).
- It reduces the risk of penile cancer and cervical cancer in partners.
- Circumcised men have less risk of sexual dysfunction later in life.
Whatever your reasons for pursing a circumcision for your son, please feel free to contact us with your questions or to schedule an appointment whenever you are ready.
Why do some parents choose not to circumcise their sons?
- They are concerned that they may be doing a procedure on an otherwise healthy baby that may cause pain or complications.
- They wonder whether their child will wish that he had not been circumcised at a later time.
- Some parents can be less interested in following cultural and religious traditions.
- They are unsure of the medical reasons in favor of a circumcision.

What is Infant Male Circumcision? Why Are Babies Circumcised?
Why Circumcision?
Parents sometimes ask about why circumcision should be done, and what type of circumcision is best. Regarding these questions we can answer that the decision why to circumcise is a personal one that will be made within your family based on your traditions and values.
There are some potential health benefits to male infant circumcision. Our recommendation is that you make an informed a decision as possible, and the answer to the question of why to circumcise that you come to will be unique to you and your family.
Circumcision is prescribed by both Judaism and Islam, and many Christians and people of other religious backgrounds. Others choose circumcision for health and cosmetic reasons, or to continue family tradition.
What is Circumcision?
Circumcision is a simple operation that involves removal of the foreskin that sheaths the head of the penis. There are a number of very different methods used today for circumcision and the application of anesthesia.
The procedure for infant circumcision used by Dr. McAuliff at Gentle Procedures Dallas allows for a virtually painless and bloodless procedure to be safely performed in minutes.
This innovative technique is not used by other circumcision doctors in Dallas despite the evident advantages for the patient and family, because it is relatively new and more difficult to learn. Dr. McAuliff invested his time in training to reduce the stress and discomfort of our patients and their families.
If you are planning to circumcise your son, please consider the methods used by different doctors in making your decision on what circumcision clinic to choose.
What Types of Circumcision Are Best?
There are different circumcision techniques practiced by different doctors but the main “circumcision types” are simply circumcised and uncircumcised.
While all circumcision methods generally seek a similar result, some are better than others at achieving a consistent outcome with minimal pain and risk of complications.
At Gentle Procedures Clinics, we only use what may be the most comfortable method for male circumcision available today.
For the infants, we use the application of multiple modalities to reduce pain, including:
- Numbing cream applied before the anesthetic injection
- A dorsal penile block (a numbing injection) that removes all feeling from the penis
- A sugar pacifier to keep the baby distracted
- Post-circumcision follow-up to quickly spot any issues.
Additionally, our doctor also controls environmental factors in the procedure room to maximize the patient’s comfort.
We maintain the temperature at a warm and comfortable level and may play music to help provide a calm ambiance during the brief operation.
Please give us a call anytime during clinic hours with your questions. We will be pleased to offer whatever additional information you may need.
CIRCUMCISION APPOINTMENT REQUEST
Why a Circumcision Doctor
It is possible to get infant boys circumcised in a non-medical setting for religious reasons. We strongly recommend that even in this case the circumcision be performed only by trained, experienced, and licensed medical doctors. Many mohelim meet this criteria, and some may not.
If you are considering a circumcision done by someone who may not be a licensed doctor, we recommend a careful evaluation of their credentials.
